My overnight stay onboard the Ocean village 2 was only my second ship visit, but certainly the most impressive. I didn't know what to expect from a cruise line that offers freestye, laid back cruising at such reasonable prices, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It is easy to forget that cruising itself is a luxury holiday experience no matter who you choose to cruise with.
Boarding the ship I was welcomed by the warm, tasteful decor, (I must admit, I expected the oranges and pink themes to continue to the interior of the ship!) We made our way up to our cabin on deck 8. The cabin was very well laid out and fairly spacious with a large window. We spent a few minutes checking out the facilites in the cabin before we were off to explore the ship.
There are two features of the ship that really impressed me, the first being the childrens area and facilities. A section of the deck has been allocated for the childrens play area and covered in astro turf style flooring. There is a well equipt play area with facilities including arts and crafts, computer games and toys for younger kids. The kids area is fully supervised, and they have a nursery that will look after the kids right up til 3am! The second feature that stood out was the Spa. Wow! It is so luxurious, and so much of it. First we saw all the treatment rooms, each room offers a different service ranging from manicures, massage, hot stone treatments and even teeth whitening. Then there is the sauna and steam room and a beautiful relaxation room where you can lounge about, relax and enjoy the views through the large glass windows. After we had explored the ship we made our way to the Plantation restaurant for lunch. It was an Asian and Oriental themed buffet, with quite a good range of different foods, including an excellent choice of desserts, so good we had to have two each!
We then headed off to check out the bars and free cocktails on offer! The bar had an extensive range of different drinks and cocktails and all at very reasonable prices, cheaper than you would find in many bars at home.
The evening entertainment was good, very contemporary, and varied providing different types of entertainment to suit all, including singing and dancing shows, comedians and a casino area that turns into a lively disco. Dinner in The Waterfront restaurant was again buffet style, but more impressive than lunch with a much wider variety of foods on offer and most impressive of all a Carte D'or ice cream bar! So once again we just had to have two desserts (did I metion they have a well equipt gym?!) After a few more cocktails we stumbled back to the cabin for a very comfortable sleep.
