The big let down on this cruise was the food in the Island and Beachcomber restaurants, it was poorly presented and often undercooked and/or cold. The restaurant staff worked hard to make the experiance enjoyable but they were let down by the quality of the food. Apparently the Island Star was "refurbished" in 2005, I suspect that all this amounted to was the addition of more cabins. The ship still looks tired and 1800 passengers is more than the restaurants and sewage system can cope with, the gents urinals nearest the swimming pools on deck 11 were often blocked (although this did not stop some people using them) . Compared to our previous cruises the onboard entertainment seemed a little amateurish. Despite all of this we did enjoy our cruise, mainly due to the hard work of the crew, but I think it would be a good idea for some heads of department to book themselves on a Thomson cruise, they might pick up a few idea on how to improve things. One word of warning ladies, if you take your menfolk on this ship this summer, there is one member of the bar staff that every male falls in love with by the end of their cruise !
