Yesterday 30/05/07 saw myself and two colleagues Mark and Nicola, travelling to Harwich where we had been invited to view the ms Rotterdam whilst it was in port at Harwich.
As I have never been on a Holland America ship, I was excited to see how it would compare with other lines I have visited/sailed on.
I was not disappointed. The ms Rotterdam is a delightful cruise ship, she is the flagship for Holland America Line's five star fleet.
We firstly visited the staterooms that had been made available for viewing, all very spacious and well appointed, with room for a sofa and table even in the most basic inside cabin, obviously the suites were fantastic with the biggest balconies I have seen.
Then on to the public areas, we braved the wind and rain to view the wicked teen only area on Sky deck complete with its own waterfall, loungers and hammocks.
There is a great sliding dome cover for the main pool area - especially useful for UK ports! A brilliant and well equiped fitness centre is situated next to the Greenhouse Spa and Salon, sadly no time to sample the gorgeous treatments on offer.
The Promenade and Upper Promenade deck are where the majority of the public areas are, and how beautiful too. Clever design has ensured a feel of intimacy and 'chic boutique' with each area individually decorated and adorned with the most stunning works of art and individual antiques. Breathtaking statues and ceiling frescos ensure each area has its own personality.
Pinnacle Grill looked amazing and a reasonable cover charge of just $30.00 meant new passengers were queueing to book soon after embarkation.
The Queen's Lounge theatre, with its comfy sofas for two, had space for everyone yet again felt surprisingly intimate and cosy.
We were wined and dined in the impressive two storey La Fontaine Dining Room where the service and food were sublime.
Sadly then time to leave - would I pick the ms Rotterdam for my next cruise? You bet I would she's a treasure.
