Went in May 2007 around the Greek islands and main land on OV one
The ship was large, spacious and always seemed uncrowded. The cabins were good and quite large.
The staff were excellent. Always helpfull and friendly
Big Big plus. 2 Freshwater warm swimming pools! Lovely!
Entertainment was good and the comediens made me laugh outloud. Dont remeber last time I did that! More contempoary type entertainment with Tina Turner, Robbie Williams and Queen tribute acts. All very good indeed. The nightclub however just did not come alive. Maybe not enough younger people but little effort was put into it to make it happen.
The food let this cruise down. I know it is difficult to cater for so many people, but previous budget cruises like this that I have been on did it better. More choice and less overcooked.
This next point should not be taken as a critisism. The whole 'ethos' of the ship proclaims that the ship if for "people that dont do cruises" But I misssed, and much preferred, the sit down, fixed place and time, evening dinner, with a chance to smarten up and make an occasion of it.
Which brings me to my main complaint. Having decided to 'buy' waiter service in the James Martin Bistro at a £13 per head cover charge, I found my self 'Sleep walking' in to a charge over and above this. It was not made clear enough for my liking and I objected to the final £60 cost for a meal that in a way I had already paid for. An argumentative waitress (or manager?) that really should take a course in Public Relations some time very soon, got right up my nose with her aggressive manor. Even after conceding the extra charge she still wanted to argue! Silly girl. Spoilt my holiday and I wont be returning as a result.
Did enjoy the holiday overall though. Sun, sea and relative luxury for a week. Whats not to like?
Some cruise purists may be dissapointed with this ship, but Butlins and Pontins lovers will like it. (and I used to be one of those)
