We embarked on Liberty at Civitevecchia this was very quick as we had fun passes (obtainable via internet) and were onboard by 12noon. We had an inside cabin on deck 7 the layout and decor was very good, the beds & bedding were the most comfortable we have experienced on all our cruises. The ships layout was very good easy to get around , though the Golden Olympian Dining Room was midships on Deck 3 & 4 and if you wished to go from Aft to Stern or vice versa you had to go up to Deck 5 across and then down again. We used Emiles (Buffet) for breakfast and lunch and the Silver Olympian Dining Room for evening meal, the buffet was quite acceptable, though lunch time menus could have given a better choice. Mashed potato when offered was a total disaster, much too sloppy. The other buffet options used were The Grill (Chicken, Burgers etc) The Deli and Pizza Bar which were all very good. We found the evening meals to be a little disappointing as the quantity and quality did not appear to be up to standard, and potatoes of any sort were a rarity. Entertainment - the shows were a mixed bag on this 12 day cruise there were only 2 production shows which were both excellent. We had a singer Marc Anthony who was exceptional. A couple of the other performers we were not interested in. There were 3 passenger participation shows which seemed too many. Overall shows could have been better. The entertainment round the ship in various bars and areas, were a mixed bag though the 2 who performed in the flower lobby were very popular. On the last evening there was very little entertainment at all. The public areas were very pleasant and the staff overall were exceptional and very friendly. Though the cruise director John Heald seemed to want to sell tours and was pushing them constantly, and was seen only at shows or on ships tv, again pushing ships excursions. On the tour side we went to Pompeii and Monte Carlo/Monaco with the excursions from the ship, both of these were excellent and certainly worth doing. One comment would be we found the port information given by the ship to be very limited and only referring to approved shops and ships tours available, not enough information for people wishing to do their own thing. Disembarkation was very smooth and efficient. Overall we enjoyed the cruise especially its ports of call and the general friendliness of the staff. Though we felt there were shortcomings on the food and entertainment side and cruise director irritating, we would certainly consider cruising again with Carnival. The value for money was very good.
