Iceland
The Icelandic capital of Reykjavik is the world's most northerly capital city and is your gateway to see dramatic icescapes and unique wildlife. Reykjavik also boasts the world's oldest parliament at Thingvellir, and the geothermal town of Hvergerdi where you will be enticed to bathe in an open air pool heated by thermal springs. Heimaey is worth a visit to see the aftermath of the volcano eruption back in 1973 which covered one third of the town in lava. Akureyri is a friendly town, colourfully framed by mountains and sea offering impressive views. The Godafoss Waterfall, Akureyri Church and the Botanical Gardens can all be viewed here. Don't miss the island of Surtsey, the most southernmost point of Iceland, which was created by a violent volcanic eruption in 1963.
